SOUTHEASTERN SECTION

Trading was fairly slow during the marketing period of September
17-23 according to marketing sources when contacted at the end of
the week for sales activity. Demand was good on light supplies of
2003 crop, light on 2004 new crop. The market undertone was
steady on 2004 crop, firm on 2003 crop. Buying interest was
centered around the light remaining supplies of 2003 crop for
prompt and nearby delivery. There were a few buyers requiring
inventory coverage for the next thirty days or so. This was
necessitated with the delay in the peanut harvest due to the recent
rainfall for Hurricane Frances and Ivan. Sheller offerings for 2004
new crop were readily available for the majority of the week with
light buying interest. By the close of the trading period, some sheller
offerings were pulled from the trading market due to the potential of
rainfall from Hurricane Jeanne. The reported sales for 2003 crop
represented moderate volume. Moderate volume was also noted on
the sale of 2004 crop. Sales were cents per pound, 2003 crop unless
otherwise stated.
